Books

Ongoing

I’m going through a few books on data science, with the general routine of:

  1. Reading a business-oriented overview of the topic in Fawcett & Provost’s Data Science for Business,
  2. Augmenting the conceptual overview with a Python implementation from Joel Grus’ Data Science from Scratch,
  3. If applicable, rounding out the topic with a more production-ready Scala implementation from Advanced Analytics with Spark

This is my first time intentionally piecing together a curriculum like this, and I’m already planning on studying other topics using this method.

Recent

Of the books I’ve read in 2020, six have been about technology companies and three have been about soul/R&B musicians.

Standouts:

  1. Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup by John Carreyrou - This book is on so many lists but for good reason. I read it in one sitting.

  2. D’Angelo’s Voodoo by Faith A. Pennick - I’m automatically into anything about the genius of D’Angelo.

  3. Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber by Mike Isaac - Hilarious name. Ridiculous story.
